The Vermont Gran Fondo joins the Gran Fondo National Series
(Gettysburg, PA – April 6, 2022) – Gran Fondo National Series (GFNS) is proud to announce the Vermont Gran Fondo as a series partner-event, which creates the opportunity for riders at Vermont Gran Fondo to earn Series points and qualify for the USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships.
The Vermont Gran Fondo was formed in 2014 in Middlebury, Vermont by a group of cycling enthusiasts with the goal of offering a supported ride through some of Vermont’s most challenging green mountain climbs. In 2018, Todd Warnock took over as director and in 2019 moved the event to Bristol, Vermont. Now in its 8th rendition, after surviving the pandemic with a year off in 2020 and a small-scale event in 2021, VTGF is working to elevate the experience for 2022 by joining the Gran Fondo National Series.
The Vermont Gran Fondo (VTGF) challenges riders to take on the infamous 4-gap ride, known by locals as the LAMB ride. The name comes from the four gaps: Lincoln Gap, Appalachian Gap, Middlebury Gap, and the Brandon Gap. The ultimate gap, the Lincoln Gap, earned its reputation as the steepest paved miles in the USA by Bicycling Magazine, one of the world’s steepest climbs by Global Cycling Network, and the many blogs documenting the efforts of cyclists from all parts of the world.
As part of the Series, points will be awarded based on timed sections on each of the four gaps. VTGF’s Green Mountain Gap Challenge trophies will be awarded to the top three men and women rider times on the Lincoln Gap, as has been done in the past.
